On September 10,2025, Bishop of Tallinn Mons. Philippe Jourdan celebrated his 20th anniversary of the ordination.
On this occasion, the Ambassador hosted a reception in the bishop’s honor and presented him with the Cross Pro Piis Maltitensis.
“It is both a joy and a privilege, in the name of His Eminence and Most Reverend Grand Master Fra’ John T. Dunlap, to present today the Cross Pro Merito Melitensi to His Excellency, our Bishop Philippe Jourdan. His life and ministry stand as a remarkable testimony of faith, dedication, and service. Trained as an engineer in France, he chose – instead to become an architect of souls — building not with stone and steel, but with faith, dialogue, and solidarity,” Ambassador said.
“As shepherd of Estonia’s Catholic community, he has guided the Church with wisdom, courage, and humility. In one of Europe’s most secular societies, his openness and compassion have enabled the Catholic Church to remain faithful to its tradition while also being a respected partner in dialogue within society at large. For the Sovereign Order of Malta, Bishop Jourdan has been a steadfast ally and trusted friend. With his invaluable support, diplomatic relations between the Order and the Republic of Estonia were established in 2020. His prayers, encouragement, and vision enabled us to begin our charitable work here. When our activities resumed in 2022, it
was Bishop Jourdan who counseled us with the wise words: “small but steady steps.” Ambassador stated.
“This has indeed been the spirit guiding our mission, which today flourishes particularly in Tallinn and, with God’s grace, will continue to grow across Estonia in cooperation with parishes and communities. For almost a thousand years, the Sovereign Order of Malta has sought to serve Christ in the sick and the poor. Here in Estonia, our mission has been profoundly strengthened by Bishop Jourdan’s friendship, leadership, and unwavering commitment to the values we share — faith, service, and fraternity,” he conclued the speech.
