On February 24, 2025, Estonia celebrated its 107th anniversary of independence with a series of official events attended by members of the diplomatic corps and foreign ambassadors accredited to Estonia. H.E. Manfred Ritter Mautner von Markhof, the Ambassador of the Order of Malta together with I.E. Friederike Mautner von Markhof were among the guests of honour.
The program offered an opportunity for the international diplomatic community to join Estonian leaders and citizens in honoring the country’s independence, democratic values, and shared international partnerships.
The day began with the traditional flag-raising ceremony at sunrise on Toompea Hill, in front of the Tall Hermann Tower of the Riigikogu (Parliament). President of the Republic of Estonia Alar Karis delivered a solemn address, emphasizing Estonia’s enduring sovereignty and its commitment to peace, democracy, and international cooperation. Members of the diplomatic corps were invited to attend as honored guests.
A central highlight of the celebrations was the military parade on Freedom Square (Vabaduse väljak), which showcased Estonia’s defense forces and featured participation from allied NATO troops. The event underlined Estonia’s strategic partnerships and commitment to regional security. Ambassadors and other dignitaries were offered reserved seating to observe the parade.
In the afternoon, a formal Independence Day reception was held at the Estonia Concert Hall, hosted by President Alar Karis and the First Lady. The event gathered senior government officials, cultural figures, and representatives of the diplomatic corps. The President addressed the guests with a message of unity, resilience, and Estonia’s role in the international community.
The official program concluded with a special Independence Day concert showcasing Estonian music, culture, and artistic expression. The concert, which included performances by leading national artists and ensembles, reflected the country’s cultural heritage and identity. A formal reception followed, providing a convivial atmosphere for informal exchanges among diplomats and Estonian officials.
Throughout the day, the program allowed Estonia’s international partners to engage with the national celebration in a spirit of respect, friendship, and solidarity.
